72 year old UKIP candidate assaulted by Tory councillor

A UKIP member was assaulted by a Tory councillor at an election count in Lymington last month.

The surprising attack on 72 year old UKIP candidate, Mike Beggs, by Councillor Penny Jackman has just been made public by the Southern Daily Echo.  Councillor Jackman has apologised and it would appear that Beggs has accepted the apology and isn't taking it any further.

Councillor Jackman took exception to an election leaflet that Beggs had produced criticising the Tories in Lymington - and Councillor Jackman in particular, who is quoted as saying "let's shut the buggers down" - for trying to evict their local cricket club from the cricket ground it's called home for the last 175 years.  Jackman verbally abused Beggs and then slapped him in the face, breaking his false teeth.

It looks like the Tories are still the nasty party ... at least in Lymington.

For the record, this story was broken by the local weekly newspaper, the New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times, not the Daily Echo. I have no connection with either newspaper but as a media observer I like to see credit given where it's due!

As the person involved in this Blog I take exception to the manner in which it is written.
Throughout I am referred to as 'Beggs' while my attacker Jackman get a title of Cllr and her photograph in the blog.
Is this how to encourage someone to stand for UKIP?
It is amazing how a story changes with the telling!
I don't have false teeth - that was made up by the daily Express.

Jackman is referred to as Cllr Jackman because to make the point that she is an elected representative and should know better. The picture is of Jackman rather than you for the caption. The Southern Daily Echo said you had false teeth as well.

Dear readers,I know both Penny Jackman and Mike Beggs .I have to say that you could not wish to meet a nicer man than Mike Beggs,"GOD looks at the heart Not at the outword appearence. The Beggs family would drop everything to help you if you were in need.Mike is an intelligent and thoughtfull man. I know penny too ,and i know who i would call on if in need.The world could do with more kind families like the Beggs Family.
Mike doesent wear dentures and he plays a mean game of rounders for a 72 yr old.He is also a passionate UKIP canidate.
