Gerard Batten MEP's home attacked

UKIP's London MEP, Gerard Batten, has had bricks thrown through the windows of his house.

Gerard and his wife were woken twice in the early hours by the sound of bricks being thrown at their windows. The police are reviewing CCTV footage in the hope of catching the perpetrators.

Left wing extremists linked to trade union backed hate groups Hope not Hate and Unite Against Fascism have been escalating their attacks on UKIP members, moving on from verbal abuse to physical assaults and criminal damage and now a cowardly attack on an MEP's home in the early hours of the morning. Far left extremists have been sharing the home addresses of UKIP MEPs on social media and encouraging people to "pay them a visit".

Nigel Farage said:
I've just heard the disgraceful news that my colleague Gerard Batten MEP's house was attacked with bricks. The attack on his home is a direct consequence of the media campaign against UKIP.

Just a heads up: this story looks like a hoax.

Full disclosure: I couldn't be much less of a fan of UKIP if I tried; they are my least favourite of all the crappy parties. However...

Farage's tweet about the alleged incident contained a link to this blog post: http://nopenothope.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/ukip-me...

If you Google "gerard batten house attacked with bricks" you'll get that blog, Farage's tweet, and posts like this one, referencing that blog and Farage's tweet. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that the story originates with that blog.

The blog itself cites no sources, and if you read other pages from it, you will see that it is both amateurish and frequently libellous.

Now, I'm not saying that the story of a UKIP MEPs house getting attacked did not make the news for 24 hours outside of a blog of questionable veracity because it's not true. It totally could be. But I would reserve plots for revenge against the evil Left until you get more confirmation of this, because everything about it stinks to high heaven.

Thanks but it was on the UKIP Facebook page last night and it's in the papers today.
