Powys councillor resigns over offensive comments in public meeting

Independent Powys County Councillor, Myfanwy Alexander, has resigned from her post as Deputy Leader of the council after using the word "nigger" in a public meeting.

Cllr Alexander was complaining to fellow councillors about apparently being told her name was a meaningless jumble of letters while she was partaking in some health tourism in England and said:
We are treated like niggers over the border. Our language and culture is trampled on and it’s a very sensitive issue. It’s not our fault that we don’t have a district general hospital to go to.
Cllr Alexander says that she wasn't being racist and isn't resigning as a councillor but has resigned from her cabinet post.

Political Correctness rules in Britain.

One silly comment like this and your career is over in politics.

Well said Achilles (of Swindon.)
It is disgusting that we are losing so many good and honest people of all parties and all persuasions, who have over the years, worked hard for their communities. These are not bad people by any stretch of the imagination.
Just a while back, a 70 year old councilwoman in Brimscombe, Gloucestershire committed a crime.
Her crime? She described HERSELF as ‘the nigger in the woodpile’, which offended two of her fellow Councillors.
Neither of her opponents belonged to the racial group justified to resent being described by the word in the idiom. Nonetheless they felt called upon to feel offended, as they’ve been trained to be by the ethos of political correctness.
A simple reply like “Oh, I’m sorry about that.” would have been more than ample and a perfectly acceptable response.
Bernard from Bucks people from all parties are making these mistakes because words that were acceptable in my day are nolonger allowed.
Nigger seems like the perfect word to use to express what she meant.

The 'health tourism' phrase suggests the author isn't very sympathetic to her - and may have a case on that point - but no word is barred from *my* vocablary and anyone trying to limit others should be strung up...

Words become out of use and unacceptable under political correctness.

Old timers like me find it hard to keep up with the latest PC rules and changes.
The Back and White Minstrel Show was very popular. It was closed years ago when political correctness was just starting out. The show was never replaced.
For years political correctness would not allow any discussion of the immigration issue.

But now Jo Public has had enough of immigration.

Now they have to let us talk about immigration.
