Farage offered place in one leaders debate

Nigel Farage has been offered a place on one of the three planned Leaders' debates ahead of next year's general election.

The format agreed by the broadcasters is one debate with the leaders of the four largest parties, another with just the first, second and fourth largest parties (Tories, Labour and Lib Dems) and then a final one just before the election with just Cameron and Miliband to perpetuate the myth of two party politics.

While this is a step in the right direction, this kind of gerrymandering just isn't acceptable. Nigel Farage needs to be in all three debates, not just one.

If Cameron and Clegg are happy to each take part in three debates then why not have five or six debates as follows:

Farage vs Cameron
Farage vs Milliband
Farage vs Clegg (if we need another one)

Cameron vs Milliband
Cameron vs Clegg

Milliband vs Clegg

In other words a full set of one-on-one debates and the broadcasters can fight over them for the likely viewing figures for each.
