Newcastle man convicted of threatening to behead UKIP candidate

A Newcastle man has been convicted of threatening to behead a UKIP candidate during this year's election campaign.

UKIP candidate for Newcastle East, David Robinson-Young, received a phone call from Ahmed after delivering leaflets for the election. Ahmed phoned Robinson-Young and launched into a diatribe about bombing his "muslim brothers in the Middle East" before telling him "if you don't fuck off then you will be the next one to get beheaded".

Aftab Ahmed denied making the threats and claimed not to hold extremist views but he was found guilty by Magistrates and will be sentenced this week.
