Bradford Labour councillor arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and misconduct in public office

A Labour councillors in Bradford has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and misconduct in public office.

Cllr Naveeda Ikram - a former Lord Mayor of Bradford - was suspended by the Labour Party last year when accusations of financial irregularities emerged. She was arrested by West Yorkshire Police last week but has not been charged.

Labour councillor in Leicester convicted of perverting the course of justice

A Leicester Labour councillor has been convicted of intending to pervert the course of justice.

Cllr Barbara Potter was convicted yesterday of lying about her ex partner spitting on her car windscreen. At the time she alleged that he had spat on the car he was working away in Birmingham. DNA evidence showed that it was in fact one of her ex partner's friends who had spat on the car, he claims unintentionally. Potter claimed that her ex partner had spat at the car and then smirked at her before driving off.

A prison sentence is usual for perverting the course of justice and Potter will be sentenced next month.
