Disgraced Lib Dem turned independent MP, Mike Hancock, has failed in an attempt to have a High Court case against him suspended on the grounds of his mental capacity after the court heard that he was standing for re-election to Portsmouth City Council.
Hancock argued that he lacked the mental capacity to appoint a legal team but his alleged victim's solicitor pointed out that he has the mental capacity to stand for re-election to Portsmouth City Council so he should be able to stand trial for allegedly abusing his position as an MP and councillor to sexually assault a mentally ill constituent.
Hancock is standing for re-election for the Fratton ward on Portsmouth City Council - the same ward where his alleged victim lives and will be unopposed by his Lib Dem colleagues.
