Former Tory and UKIP MEP, Janice Atkinson, joins forces with French National Front in the EU Parliament

Former Tory, former UKIP, now independent MEP Janice Atkinson has signed up as co-president of a new grouping in the EU Parliament led by the French National Front's Marine Le Pen.

Atkinson defected from the Conservatives to UKIP in 2011 and was elected as a UKIP MEP last year. She was expelled from UKIP earlier this year after her assistant was caught asking a restaurant owner to falsify receipts for expenses.

Her joining forces with the Front National means that Le Pen has been able to form the Europe of Nations and Freedom group and access millions of pounds of funding.

Its the same issue as with Bashir - there is no right of recall for MEP's who change parties, a problem for UKIP that goes back to Kilroy Silk. It is up o the individual MEP to resign - they cannot be removed, they cannot be forcibly replaced, you are stuck with them until their five year term is up.

The only real answer is Brexit - that is the only way really to sack an MEP!!!

That's the thing - with the PR system the EU uses we elect a party for the EU Parliament rather than electing an individual as we do for Westminster. When an MEP resigns the next person on the party list should take their place, they shouldn't be able to defect.
The French National Front are the only serious resistance to the EUSSR on continental Europe, UKIP must join with them

UKIP's aim is to get Britain out of the EU. The FN is only concerned with French interests and while both are anti-EU the goal for UKIP is Brexit, and winning the referendum. Given the media atitude to UKIP, being associated even informally with the FN will be used as a media smear weapon against UKIP and as such threatens the Brexit vote.

That is why Nigel took the sensible decision last July not to form a group with the FN when the FN offered it.
