Vote of no confidence in ex-Lib Dem Wigan porn councillor

Wigan councillors have passed a motion calling on disgraced former Lib Dem councillor, Robert Bleakley, to resign.

Bleakley has been in front of the council's standards committee several times in the last year after being caught with porn on his laptop and altering an email to try and get council officers blamed for it, sending abusive text messages from his council laptop and running up a £2,400 bill calling sex chat lines from his council mobile.

Bleakley has had his council laptop and phone taken off him, his council internet disconnected and is banned from speaking to female members of staff. Residents in his ward have started a petition calling on him to resign and now all but 2 of his colleagues voted in favour of a motion calling on him to resign. Yet still he clings on, getting nearly £11,700 a year in allowances. This is why we need voter recall, not just for MPs but for councillors as well.

Angry residents have launched a petition calling on disgraced Wigan councillor, Robert Bleakley, to resign.

Bleakley has been caught with porn on his council laptop, caught altering an email to try and get council officers sacked, caught sending abuse text messages from his council mobile and caught running up a £2,400 phone bill calling sex chat lines on his council mobile.

Bleakley resigned from the Lib Dems in the new year after he was caught with porn on his laptop but has repeatedly refused to resign as a councillor as he's gone from one scandal to the next.

Disgraced Wigan councillor used his council mobile to send abusive messages and call sex lines

Wigan Councillor, Robert Bleakley, who resigned from the Lib Dems after being caught with porn on his council laptop last year and was censured this year for altering an email to try and blame council officers for it has been caught sending abusive text messages and calling premium rate sex chat lines on his council mobile.

This is three times now in less than 12 months that Cllr Bleakley has been censured by the council's standards board for serious breaches of the code of conduct and behaviour that would have resulted in dismissal from any other job for gross misconduct. If ever there was a case for the electorate to be able to sack elected representatives and call a by-election, Cllr Bleakley has surely got to be the smoking gun.

Wigan Lib Dem porn councillor censured by standards committee

A Wigan Lib Dem councillor who resigned from the party in the new year after being caught with porn on his council laptop has been found guilty of breaching council rules over an incident in April where he altered the contents of an email to try and jeopardise the jobs of two council employees.

Cllr Robert Bleakley was censured by the Wigan Council's standards committee, ordered to attend one-to-one training sessions and will have his council emails monitored for 12 months, reduced to 6 months if he co-operates.

Bleakley has previously been investigated by the police and the now-defunct Standards Board for England and was disqualified from being a councillor for a period of time.

Shamed Lib Dem porn councillor told to resign

Leader of Wigan Council, Lord Peter Smith, has criticised Wigan councillors for their behaviour and told a former Lib Dem councillor that he should have resigned after being caught using his council laptop to watch porn.

One councillor was removed from the meeting last week for using Twitter during the meeting when instructed not to do so and several others left in protest leading the council to introduce mandatory training for new councillors and instructing officers to find a way to deduct money from the allowances of those councillors who were expelled or left the meeting.

Lord Smith told councillor Robert Bleakley, who resigned from the Lib Dems in shame after being caught with porn on his council laptop - something that would have resulted in the instant dismissal of a council employee. In February, Bleakley was found guilty of doctoring an email in an attempt to get two senior employees of the council into enough trouble to lose their jobs. He has been investigated several times by the council's Standards Committee, suspended by the now-defunct Standards Board for England three times and investigated by the police for misuse of public office yet the Lib Dems still didn't expel him and in the end he resigned over the new year.

Lord Smith said that in his long career, the meeting was "the most atrocious meeting I have seen.”
