Liberal Party stand down candidates in Cornwall to support UKIP

The Liberal Party in Cornwall have withdrawn their three general election candidates in the county and urged their members and supporters to vote and support UKIP in May.

After getting feedback from their members, the Liberal Party have written to Dr Robert Smith, the UKIP candidate for Camborne & Redruth, informing him that they are withdrawing their candidates.

North Cornwall Council warns schools not to allow Lib Dem councillor near children

North Cornwall Council has issued a warning to schools and clubs in the area not to allow Cllr Alex Folkes access to children.

Lib Dem Cllr Folkes resigned as Cabinet Member for Finance & Resources earlier this month and has been urged to resign from the council. Child protection concerns have been raised at the council in relation to Cllr Folkes and a police investigation in 2000.

Tory councillor calls himself "Sir" for 19 years

A Conservative Councillor in Cornwall has been calling himself an MBE for 19 years despite never actually having a knighthood.

Cllr Terry Wilkins claims to have been hoaxed 19 years ago by a colleague in the police force who gave him a fake letter and medal telling him he had been given an MBE.

He has also been telling people that he has a 2:1 degree in Health & Wellness pending from the Open University who say they have no idea who he is.

Results update

There are still no more results in for euroregions although local results are trickling in.

The vote share in Scotland is dismal as expected. To paraphrase a certain West Midlands MP, Scotland is horribly socialist.

Cornwall looks interesting - Labour have been pushed into 6th place behind Mebyn Kernow, the Cornish nationalist party.

Yorkshire & the Humber's result is due imminently and it looks like UKIP have come second but may not have done well enough to get the second MEP which may go to the BNP.
