UKIP FIGHTING FOR WALSALL MARKET

Walsall market granted by the Crown and uncared for by Walsall MBC.Furious UKIP campaigners in Walsall have pledged to take a stand with traders on the towns historic outdoor market whose future has been plunged into uncertainty. West Midlands MEP Mike Nattrass and fellow members of the UK Independence Party will meet with traders on Friday 24th April, 2009, to discuss disgraceful plans to sell off half of Walsall market to a private firm.

Members of UKIP met on Monday to discuss plans by Walsall Council to tender out a huge stake in Walsall market across the European Union which could in turn see the market falling into foreign hands. Representatives of Walsall UKIP are also strongly against plans to move the market, which dates back around 800 years, to Lower Hall Lane.

UKIP West Midlands MEP Mike Nattrass, who is a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism at the European Parliament, said: “Under the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), Walsall Council must put out to tender, across the EU, the contract for Walsall market. “A 50 per cent stake of the town’s historic market, which is very much loved by the people of Walsall, could fall into foreign hands.

“The future of the market should be guided by the people of Walsall and not by the European Union. “Walsall Council should hang its head in shame over this. Walsall Market traders have my full support.” Derek Bennett, chairman of UKIP in Walsall, added: “The market is an important part of Walsall’s rich heritage and its future should be safeguarded for future generations. “It appears the council is just walking away from the market and the market traders themselves.”

Warwickshire leafleting day

UKIP members in the West Midlands have really got to grips with our leafleting days, we have had successful days in several towns and places around the Midlands such as Leamington Spa (our first leafleting day), Shrewsbury, Penkridge, Stafford and we even had two campaigning teams out last Saturday in two parts of the Midlands. Because of this one hell of a lot of the leaflets, so kindly donated by Alan Bown, have gone out and a good number of responses from them.

One person who has been at every campaigning day bar one is Steve Fowler, who is as keen as mustard to set up a UKIP branch in North Warwickshire - now it's our turn to give Steve a hand.

There is to be a North Warwicksire campaigning day this coming Saturday, 31st January, and as ever we are asking as many UKIP members as posible to come along and do their bit in the area. We will be meting at 9.30 am on the car park of the Colsehill Hotel, 152-156 High Street, Coleshill, Warwickshire, B46 3BG. UKIP West Midlands day of action

The next Day of action leafleting is to be held in the Stafford constituency on Saturday 15th of November, could all of those who would like to join the leafleting team on that day please email Derek Bennett at ukipderek@hotmail.co.uk .

The idea is to leaflet area´s where UKIP has not campagined before hoping to get UKIP actvie in those areas and setting up branch´s there.The leaflets will be supplied by Alan Bown and the pre-paid evenlopes will inculde lots of UKIP info. As before, when we held our first successful West Midlands team leafleting day in Leamington Spa, we will meet up in the morning at 9.30am,, so no lie-in this Saturday, it's up with a lark and we want to see you bright eyed and bushy tailed, so not too much indulgence in the pub the evening before, please. The teams will then disperse until lunchtime where we will all meet up for a spot of lunch and a bit of refreshment, then back out in the afternoon.

These leafleting days are proving worth while, not only do we get a lot of leaflets out in one go, but its good to meet up with fellow campaigners, young and old, and do some worthwhile campaigning.

This is well worth going to !! See you all there !

Leafleting in the West Midlands

Derek Bennett, UKIP's regional organiser for the West Midlands, has sent out the following request for help:

Dear UKIP member/supporter.

From now on, once a month, UKIP in the West Midlands will be having campaigning days delivering leaflets supplied by Alan Brown, The first campaigning day is to be in Leamington on Saturday 11th October.

We will meet up and start in the morning delivering leaflets for about two hours, then break for lunch where we will meet up in a pub, and continue for a further two hours in the afternoon. If we can get twenty or more UKIP activists delivering leaflets in deferent areas each month up until the Euro Elections next June we will be able to put out a lot of leaflets.

Are you willing to help UKIP in this campaign? If so please let me know by either e-mail or give me a call. Lets get stuck in and make an impact, we want to make the Euro elections will be the referendum we were promised but never given. I look forward to hearing from you.
