Vince Cable describes EU referendum as "horribly irrelevant"

Vince Cable has responded to David Cameron's vague suggestion that an EU referendum might not be entirely out of the question as long as everyone votes Tory and he gets to ask the right question to get the right answer by describing an EU referendum as "horribly irrelevant at a time of upheaval taking place in Europe".

Wee Willy Vague said that that there may be a "powerful case" for an EU referendum but we can't have one until the EU has decided what it wants to do about turning itself into a country.

Labour's shadow foreign secretary, Douglas Alexander, said that Cameron's comments mean he is weak whilst Liam Fox said "life outside the EU holds no terror".

Up to 100 Tory MPs are apparently demanding Cameron passes a law to force the British government to hold an EU referendum after the next election.  Presumably these MPs are aware of the constitutional principal that no parliament can bind its successor, rendering any such law completely useless.  They were no doubt aware that the already useless EU Bill which contains the so-called referendum lock also can't bind the next parliament and isn't worth the paper it was written on.

If the Tories really are serious about honouring their many promises for an EU referendum then it needs to be held in this parliament.  The Tories won't win the next election, even with a Cast Iron Guarantee™ of an EU referendum so it's now or never.  If these 100 Tory MPs demanding a referendum are serious about it then one of them needs to grow a pair and put in a private members bill now or show us how important their principles are by defecting to UKIP and getting our low tax, small state, pro-independence agenda into Westminster where it belongs.

As for Vince Cable's statement that an EU referendum is "horribly irrelevant", I think most people would consider jetting around the world to get agreement to change the law simultaneously in 16 countries to give "equal rights" to female heirs to the throne was "horribly irrelevant".

Conspiracy to deny a referendum

The subject of a referendum on EU treaty change is dividing the Conservative & _٨^European Unionist Party, with high profile Tories including government ministers on one side saying we must have a referendum and demand the "repatriation" of powers from the EU and; David Camoron, Ken Clarke and Chris Grayling on the other saying we can't have a referendum and they won't be trying to "repatriate" any powers.

The Tories held up their EU Bill as proof of their eurosceptic credentials - a law to give the proles a referendum when the EU tries to take more power off us.  Back in February I said that the chances of getting a referendum out of the EU Bill was "somewhere between zero and um ... zero".  I'd say the chances right now are even lower!

Yesterday Ken Clarke confirmed what Chris Grayling said last Thursday: that saving the €uro is more important than national interest and that there will be no attempt to "repatriate" powers from the EU.

Wee Willy Vague made the unexpectedly frank admission in January that we need a law to protect our democracy from the EU and if the Express' sources are correct, he was absolutely right.  It appears that France and Germany are conspiring to ensure that if Cast Iron Dave manages to grow a backbone and demands something in return for signing their treaty, they will ensure it is blocked.

They needn't worry though, he's not going to make any demands and he's already ruled out a referendum before he knows what decisions are going to be made.  The Merkozy Borg have said they will keep any treaty changes to a minimum so a referendum in the UK can be avoided and Herman van Rumpy-Pumpy has drafted his own proposals for changes to a protocol attached to the Lisbon Treaty instead of a treaty change which means that yes, you've guessed it, a referendum can be avoided.

There is a conspiracy to deny us a referendum from the traitors that rule us to the corrupt EU officials that pull the strings inside the ConDem coalition.  There's only one way to get a referendum on the EU and that's by voting UKIP at every opportunity.

The treason of Andrew Duff MEP

Lib Dem MEP, Andrew Duff, has written to the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Burek, asking him to amend the EU Constitution Lisbon Treaty to allow new and amended EU treaties to be imposed on us with a vote of 4/5ths of member states rather than by a unanimous decision.

The letter makes it clear that this amendment - which he has even drafted in his letter - is to make the already pathetic and ineffectual EU Bill entirely redundant but removing the requirement for the British government to approve any EU Treaty and its ability (albeit only technically possible) to refuse to assent to one.

Looking at Andrew Duff's news feed it looks like the treasonous MEP has set his heart on betraying his country. In this letter to Baroness Jay opposing the EU Bill, he argues against the sovereignty of the British Parliament over the EU, warning that the "crude" Bill "imposes British Acts of Parliament" on EU laws.  He draws Baroness Jay's attention to the example set by the Germans who have changed their constitution to ban referenda and commit Germany to ever closer union.  But what would you expect from a traitor that was a member of the Federal Trust and helped to write the EU Convention on Human Rights (which gives prisoners the right to vote - something he says he supports) and the EU Constitution.

Although the death penalty was abolished for treason by the previous Labour government to protect themselves from conviction, Andrew Duff should remember that treason remains a serious crime in England and anyone aiding and abetting him is committing a serious common law offence.  I wonder if the fools that voted for this europhile traitor could be tried for misprison of treason?  I think I'd rather give the vote to prisoners than Lib Dems.

MPs voted yesterday on an amendment to the ConDem's EU Bill - described by the Conservative MP, Douglas Carswell, as "a bogus EU bill" - that would trigger an in/out referendum on EU membership when we, the electorate, voted against an EU power grab.

The chances of us getting a referendum under the EU Bill are somewhere between zero and um ... zero ... so how many of the 306 Conservative MPs do you think backed up their false claim of being a eurosceptic party by voting in favour of the amendment?  Half?  Three quarters?  No, it was 20.  Twenty Conservative MPs out of 306 who pretend to be representing a eurosceptic party at election time voted to give us a referendum on EU membership when given the chance.

The Conservative Party is not a eurosceptic party.  Their MPs and MEPs have all gone native.  Tory supporters put their faith in the likes of Douglas Carswell and the other handful of eurosceptic Conservatives in Westminster but they're frustrated at every turn by the sheer weight of europhile MPs and sycophants who have surrendered themselves entirely to the whip and will vote how they are told.  They put their faith in Roger Helmer and Dan Hannan, not realising that the token eurosceptic Conservative MEPs are there to attract votes and deflect attention away from the fact that the Tories are firmly in the pro-EU camp, along with Labour and the Lib Dems.  The Conservative and Unionist Party is, in reality, the Conservative and European Unionist Party despite the vague rhetoric from Little Willy about controlling the EU's constant power grabs.

Millions of people were led to believe they were voting for a eurosceptic party when they put their X next to the Conservative Party candidate - they were conned into voting for ever closer union, ever increasing power for the EU and ever rising bills for the privilege.

Lidington provokes dissent from rank and file Tories on EU Bill

ConservativeHome bravely published an article "Why every Conservative can be proud of the European Union bill" from the Minister for the EU, David Lidington yesterday.

It was brave because the bill is about as popular as a dog turd sandwich amongst rank and file Tories and Lidington trying to sell it as "the most radical piece of legislation on how we handle the EU since Britain joined the then EEC in 1973" was never going to go down well but I don't think anyone expected it to go quite as badly as it has.

There are too many comments to count - there must be a couple of hundred by now - and I can't find one single comment agreeing with Lidington.  What there are lots of are comments from Tories saying how fed up they are of the europhile Tory leadership and people like David Lidington, William Hague and David Cameron insulting their intelligence by telling them that the EU Bill is protection from the assaults on our sovereignty by the European Empire.

It makes you wonder how the Tories have managed to keep as many members as they have judging by the number of unhappy people on ConHome.

Tory MP, Bill Cash, has tabled a number of amendments to make it do what it says on the tin and fellow Tory MP, Douglas Carswell, called it a "bogus EU bill". Labour MP, Yvette Cooper, describes it as "badly drafted and contradictory".  William Hague, meanwhile, describes it as "the strongest defence of national democracy put in place anywhere in Europe".

It's an interesting comment from Little Willy.  He says it's the strongest defence of national democracy anywhere in Europe.  Why do Switzerland, Norway, Russia or any of the other countries in Europe that haven't stupidly signed themselves up to the EU project need a law to defend their national democracy?  They don't because they don't have the EU trying to steal it from them.

And surely this is the first time a front bench MP from one of the pro-EU parties has admitted that we need laws to defend our national democracy from the EU, that the EU is actively trying to undermine our sovereignty?

An unexpected and presumably unintentional admission from the Tory Foreign Minister that the EU is working against our national interest.
