NUS vote to run political campaign against UKIP

The National Union of Students has voted to openly oppose UKIP at its conference.

Jack Duffin, the Chairman of UKIP's youth wing, Young Independence, says he is disappointed because it will alienate the students who are involved with UKIP and call it "bizarre, pathetic posturing". He's not wrong but the NUS is worse than bizarre and pathetic, it is an out-of-touch breeding ground for left wing extremists and Labour politicians.

In February the Telegraph took the NUS to task, describing them as "loony anarchists". The president of the NUS hasn't even been to university and some of the officers aren't even students. The NUS is seen as a stepping stone to becoming a Labour MP and those who cheered the news of Margaret Thatcher's death at their last conference are the ones who will no doubt rise through the ranks quickest.

Like all socialist organisations the NUS doesn't represent its members, it is a platform for left wing extremists that allows Labour to conduct arms-length campaigns of intimidation, violence and vandalism masquerading as grassroots protests.

I am shocked that in modern day Britain this organisation is allowed to exist with this outdated and backward attitude. They are simply communists in disguise and it is a wonder how they are not banned from universities...

Very well said and unfortunately true.
One only has to look at this swivel eyed nonsense to realise what you're up against. These people live in a utopia that believes you can merely tax the rich to service everybody else. That they believe EVERYONE can come here without so much as acknowledging let alone identifying how infrastructure is paid for etc is beyong a joke.

"We oppose cuts and privatisation, and demand the rich are taxed to fund decent services, jobs and housing for everyone, no matter where they come from. We demand free education and the right for everyone to go to university, against UKIP’s insistence that fewer people should go. We demand well-funded apprenticeship schemes and the creation of well-paid, secure, socially useful jobs for all. Everyone should be paid at least the Living Wage, with no exceptions. We support trade union rights, including the repeal of anti-union laws.

We call on Labour to stop playing the Tories’, and UKIP’s, game on cuts and immigration.

By signing this statement, we reaffirm and declare our intention to fight against UKIP and everything it stands for".

I would just like to inject some facts into this debate. The stats show UKIP have less than 5% support amongst students and a recent poll has shown that 83% of students want to stay in the EU. Also, the statistics show that UKIP have little to no support amongst university graduates. So, the NUS campaigning against UKIP is going to make little to no difference to the student vote. No matter how much UKIP criticise the NUS for this it really is wasted time as they have nothing to offer those with an education.
