Nigel Farage named Times Briton of the Year

Nigel Farage has been named as the Times' Briton of the Year for 2014.

The Times described him as a game changing politician and said he set the political agenda for 2014 and will set it again in 2015.

When Nigel Farage took the helm at UKIP in 2006 he inherited a single issue pressure group and by 2014 had turned it into an election winning peoples' army with representation at all levels of government and in all four of the nations of the UK. The party now has over 40k members, two MPs, three peers, 24 MEPs, a Stormont MLA, hundreds of primary tier councillors and hundreds more town and parish councillors. UKIP is now the number three party in the UK, having relegated the Lib Dems to fourth, possibly fifth place and expected to make significant gains in May.
