On Thursday, Britain will vote in the closest General Election for a generation. The days when our collective fates were parcelled up between the old order of Conservative and Labour are gone. They will never return, for the ground has irrevocably shifted. No party has done more to churn the landscape of British politics than Ukip.Check out the full article to see why the Express is backing UKIP.
Once it seemed that the faint whispers of this grassroots movement would remain forever relegated to the fringes of society.
If they were heard at all they were dismissed by a high-handed establishment, being branded “fruitcakes” and “clowns”.
Yet the Ukip message resonated with too many voters to be ignored. Suddenly, the name-calling stopped. Ukip has forced the Tories to become more Conservative. It also stands for the working class who do not wish to be represented by career politicians of Ed Miliband’s ilk.
In some quarters it has already been labelled “the new Labour Party”.
To understand its broad appeal simply consider its commonsense messages.

80% want an EU referendum
A Populus poll for the Daily Express published yesterday shows that 80% want a referendum on our continued membership of the EU. Half of those polled said they wanted a referendum right now.
This needs no commentary: everyone knows that most people want an EU referendum, that most people want out of the EU and that the pro-EU Tories won't give us one. That doesn't mean we shouldn't keep plugging away at Cameron in the vague hope that he might remember what democracy actually means so here's the email I just sent him ...

Dear Mr Cameron,
Another poll shows most people in the UK want a referendum on our membership of the EU.
You have made it abundantly clear that you personally support ever closer union and the eventual subsumption of my country into a United States of Europe but this is not what the majority of the population wants and I personally believe that what millions of people want is more important than what you want. A Populus poll this week says 80% of people want a referendum - you won't find a poll that says we don't want one.
You say the economy is more important than an EU referendum but bizarrely prioritise changing the law on royal succession which nobody gives a damn about.
To say that the public don't want an EU referendum is entirely dishonest and to continue to deny one is undemocratic. You claim to be neither so please confirm you will carry out the clearly expressed wishes of an overwhelming majority of the electorate and hold a referendum at the soonest opportunity.
Stuart

Eurosceptic Tories? Don't make me laugh!
Thursday's Express claims that two Tory cabinet members and a raft of Tory MPs are coming out in opposition to the EU and may even vote for UKIP in the next election.
Let's be very clear about this: there is no rebellion in the Tory Party on the subject of the EU. There is no call from cabinet members to leave the EU. There is no group of Tory MPs calling for their party to negotiate our independence from the EU. Tory MPs will not be voting for UKIP in an election. If Tory MPs were genuinely eurosceptic they wouldn't be voting UKIP in an election, they would be defecting and bringing down the europhile ConDem government. The Conservative Party is pro-EU, a policy that is fully supported by its MPs and MEPs.
And what was Downing Street's response to all this? A reaffirmation of the British government's policy of ever closer union whilst trying to reform the unreformable. Leaving the EU is "not the government's policy".
Which is nice but let's just remember that despite the flirting with Farage and carrying the occasional UKIP advert, the Express is still a Tory rag and they will make a story out of nothing to help the Conservatives. The Express is using UKIP to try and force Cameron's hand but it's nothing more than a staring contest. If Cameron blinks first the Express can claim victory and they'll drop UKIP like a hot potato. If Cameron doesn't blink at all (well, cyborgs don't need to blink do they?) then the Express will spin some non-story into a stand against the EU, claim victory and drop UKIP like a hot potato.

Daily Express comes out as eurosceptic ... but still supports europhile Tories
Today's Daily Express leads with a call to "GET BRITAIN OUT OF EUROPE".
The Daily Express claims to be the first national newspaper calling for the UK to leave the EU. They may well be right although I'm pretty sure the Daily Star have previously made the same call.
It's great that a national newspaper is making a crusade out of throwing off the shackles of EU membership but it's a bit of a hollow crusade when they still support the Conservative and ٨ European Unionist Party.
The Daily Express is collecting online signatures for a petition to present to Cast Iron Dave. You can put your name to the by clicking the image below.
