Former Labour Mayor of Gloucester defects to UKIP

A former Labour Gloucester City Councillor and Mayor of Gloucester has defected to UKIP.

Harjit Gill said he has joined UKIP because the party has the answers on immigration, the economy and the EU. He said that it was a big step after 20 years in the Labour Party "but more and more I think my views are in line with what UKIP want".

Gill's wife, Jasminder, is still a Labour Gloucestershire County Councillor.

Sheriff of Gloucester apologises for lying on election leaflet

A Labour councillor in Gloucester has apologised for making false claims in his election leaflet.

Cllr Said Hansdot, Sheriff of Gloucester, claims that he is a trustee of St James City farm in his leaflet for the local election this week but he isn't. He has apologised for lying but offers no explanation as to how the false claim appears on his leaflet.
