Oldham deserves better than Labour, vote John Bickley

Voters go to the polls in Oldham West & Royton today to choose a replacement for the late Michael Meacher who sadly passed away in late October.

Oldham has been described as a "one party state" due to Labour's dominance in the city as the former party of the working class. But the city that once elected Sir Winston Churchill - thought by many to be the greatest and most principled leader we've ever had - deserves better than four more years of Labour, Jeremy Corbyn and the IRA supporting communist tax dodger, Jim McMahon.

UKIP is the only party that can end Labour's rule in Oldham and give people in the north and MP that works for real people, not corporate interests or unaccountable quangos and organisations. John Bickley is a successful businessman from a working class family, not a career politician.

Oldham East & Saddleworth - good or bad result for UKIP?

Labour won yesterday's Oldham East & Saddleworth by-election with an increased majority.  The Limp Dims unexpectedly increased their majority as well whilst the Tories predictably lost vote share.

So how did UKIP do yesterday?  Was it a good result?  Paul Nuttall didn't win so that's a disappointment but he did retain his deposit with 5.8% of the vote - the only non-LibLabCon party that got more than the required 5% to get their £500 back.  UKIP got 2,029 votes compared to the 4,481 votes the Tories got - almost half as many as the party in government.  UKIP beat the BNP who only got 1,560 votes and missed out on retaining their deposit by half a percent.  The English Democrats, who were predicting giving UKIP a run for their money the other day, bombed and came 8th out of 10 behind the Monster Raving Loony Party.

So on balance, it was a disappointing result considering the unbelievable amount of effort that went into UKIP's campaign in Oldham East & Saddleworth but it was a good result.  Paul Nuttall retained his deposit, got half the Tory vote and beat the BNP.

The ballots are still being counted in Oldham East & Saddleworth but the result is a foregone conclusion.

Smarkets.com have Labour at 94.3% to win with the Lib Dims a very distant second at 4.7%.  The Tories are on 1.4% and UKIP, BNP and "any other" are at 0.1% each.

The people of Oldham obviously have very short memories.  That or the large number of unemployed people are worried about losing their benefits and having to find jobs and the worryingly large immigrant population are repaying the party that opened the door to unlimited immigration.

Billboards attacked in Oldham again

Someone in Oldham is scared of UKIP judging by the two attacks on UKIP billboards in less than a week.

The first set of billboards and posters with the slogan "Against Unlimited Immigration" were vandalised last week and posters have been vandalised again overnight.  Local BNP activists are believed to be behind the latest vandalism based on the illiteracy and incoherence of the messages written on the posters.

Both attacks have been reported to the police.

Oldham East & Saddleworth

The Christmas and New Year break is over and we're straight into a curiously timed by election in Oldham East & Saddleworth.

This by election was called after the Labour MP and former minister, Phil Woolas, was found guilty of illegal election campaigning by telling lies about his Lib Dem opponent.

Amusingly, the Lib Dems are expected to do even worse after their betrayal of the poor saps who voted for them on the basis of their opposition to tuition fees the English university tax.  Getting Phil Woolas convicted of breaking electoral law is the only success they're likely to get in Oldham.

The downside is that the Labour candidate is odds-on to win the by election.  It seems that people in Oldham have short memories if they can forget that it was a lying, cheating Labour candidate they were conned into voting for and a lying, cheating Labour Party that has spent the last decade destroying the country.

UKIP's candidate for the election is Paul Nuttall MEP, a local and an excellent future MP.  Only one party can deal with the out-of-control immigration, high tax, illiberal society that the LibLabCon have created.  UKIP policies include a cap on economic immigration, a flat tax that will take low paid workers out of the tax system entirely, rolling back the database state, abolishing quangos and of course leaving the EU.

Of course the EU knows best!

A man from Oldham is seeking compensation from the EU after they legislated him out of business as a mole catcher.

Peter Brown had been culling moles using strychnine for 18 years and operated a UK government-approved scheme serving 87 farms in the Oldham area. Moles push soil to the surface, releasing lysteria which poisons livestock.

But the all-knowing EU has decided that killing moles with strychnine is cruel and insists that traps and other poisons like aluminium phosphide are used instead. But, just like the British government with the fox hunting ban, it is an ill-informed and ultimately less humane change for the worse.

Moles may be injured by a trap, escape and die days later from their injuries. Even if the mole is caught, it can take some time for them to die. Aluminium phosphide, according to Mr Brown, can take two days to kill a mole and I'd rather believe the word of a mole catcher on mole poison than the word of a politician.

Mr Brown went to see his MEP, Chris Davies, the eurofederalist Lib Dem MEP for the North West euroregion who is such an expert on mole catching that he told the Oldham Advertiser that strychnine isn't safe and that killing a mole with strychnine is too inhumane. In fact, he even wrote an article for issue 72 of Pesticide News saying as much back in 2006 and even claimed that moles could be a gardeners friend!

No method of culling moles is going to be nice but the one thing that strychnine poisoning has going for it as a poison for moles and other rodents is that it is 100% effective with very small doses and does not, no matter what Chris Davies or the EU says, result in a slow death. Death can be a quick as 10-15 minutes from eating the poison - a lot less than the two days for aluminimum phosphate or fatal wounding by a trap.

Mr Brown is being supported by local UKIP members which clearly worries Chris Davies:

I’m also delighted UKIP have exposed themselves as wanting to subject moles to appalling cruelty when they are killed in this disgusting way. Perhaps they’re not aware that animal welfare is a topic that fills MEPs’ postbags with thousands of letters a year?

Mr Davies has clearly forgotten that the Lib Dems were relegated to 4th place in the last EU elections and have just as much knowledge of what their "constituents" are worried about from their own post bags. More, in fact, because people worried about the extent to which this country is being subsumed into a federal superstate know that they can get a genuine answer by writing to a UKIP MEP instead of eurofederalist traitors like Chris Davies.
