Complaint about Conservative councillor's game playing in meetings

A complaint has been made against a Conservative councillor in Guildford who has been repeatedly playing games during council meetings.

Cllr Marsha Moseley, who sits on both Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council, claims that the only thing that keeps her concentration during council meetings is playing Candy Crush on her iPad. Some residents are less than convinced and have made an official complaint.

Surrey Conservative councillor appealing prison sentence for assault

A Conservative councillor in Surrey convicted of 5 counts of assaulting his ex-girlfriend is appealing against his 22 week prison sentence.

Cllr Asif Ayub was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison for the assault by Ealing Magistrates' Court but isn't happy with the conviction or the sentence. His appeal will be heard shortly at Isleworth Crown Court.

Foot fetishist Lib Dem apologises for sleazy Twitter account

A pervy Lib Dem council candidate in Surrey is being investigated by his party's regional office over his sleazy Twitter account.

Mark Regan, who is standing for election to Mole Valley District Council, tweeted "love to lick and kiss feet" and was looking for large single women in Surrey. He also retweeted content from swinging and porn accounts.

His local Lib Dem branch are standing by him, saying that he's an "ideal candidate" on his website but their regional office might be harder to convince. He has apologised for any offence caused.

Surrey Tory says Muslims should be expelled and mosques demolished

A Tory from Surrey has said that every Muslim should be expelled from the country and all mosques should be demolished.

In his Twitter profile, Stephen Lees describes himself as "Tory, smoker, drinker, cricketer, shooter, ferroequinologist and proud possessor of a Social Services red file. You have no right not to be offended". Last night he tweeted the following:

Every single Muslim should be expelled from this country -- not deported -- expelled, and every mosque demolished.

Strangely, there's no media hysteria over this Conservative's extreme views as yet but he's only in the party that's running the country, not UKIP so it's hardly newsworthy is it?

UKIP wins in Runnymede

UKIP has gained its first borough council seat in Surrey after Chris Browne won a by-election in Runnymede yesterday.

Cllr Browne overcame a 24% deficit to beat the Tory candidate by just 18 votes.  Runnymede Borough Council has 35 Tories, 5 Runnymede Independent Residents councillors and now 1 UKIP councillor.

Chairman of Chertsey Town Conservative Association, Cllr Paul Tuley, said they were disappointed and dismissed the result as a one off.

Runnymede is where Magna Carta was signed and winning a seat on Runnymede Borough Council is pretty symbolic.

UKIP candidate beats Labour in by-election

UKIP candidate, Joseph Fox, has achieved a respectable second place in the Tadworth and Walton ward in the Reigate and Banstead by-election in Surrey.

The by-election was won convincingly by the Tory candidate, Richard Bennett, with 925 votes compared to 350 (24.34%) for Joseph Fox with the Labour candidate, David Knowles, bringing up the rear with a paltry 163 votes.

Obviously, a win for UKIP would have been the ideal outcome but isn't it satisfying to see Labour's terminal decline into electoral oblivion?
