Labour candidate fined and sentenced to community service for fraud

Labour election candidate for Wellingborough & Rushden, Richard Garvie, has been fined and sentenced to community service for committing fraud.

Garvie fraudulently used a closed bank account to buy train tickets knowing that the account was closed and that he was spending the bank's money. He was ordered to pay £894 to the bank, £400 court costs, a £60 victim surcharge and sentenced to 60 hours of community service.

The outcome of the police investigation into inappropriate messages he sent to a school girl after a hustings is unknown.

Fraudster Labour candidate under investigation for sending messages to schoolgirl

The Labour parliamentary candidate for Wellingborough & Rushden suspended by the party after being convicted of fraud is being investigated by police for sending inappropriate messages to a 17 year old school girl.

Richard Garvie attended a hustings at Wellingborough School and allegedly sent a message to the pupil afterwards asking if she was "ready for bed". According to the Daily Mail, the girl's boyfriend saw the message and the school were informed who then called in the police.

Labour candidate for Wellingborough & Rushden suspended over fraud conviction

Labour's parliamentary candidate for Wellingborough & Rushden has been suspended by his party after being convicted of fraud.

Richard Garvie used a bank card linked to a closed bank account to purchase £890 worth of train tickets. Garvie says that he hasn't done anything dishonest despite admitting that he had intentionally spent £890 of the bank's money without their permission expecting them to add it to the £2,000 debt that he had run up spending their money without permission, Which is theft.

Garvie is the second Labour parliamentary candidate this week for finding themselves on the wrong side of the law after the Labour Party suspended their Banff & Buchan candidate was charged with drink driving.
