York Labour councillor calls Conservative councillors "seriously obese"

A Labour councillor in York has apologised after tweeting that two Conservatives were "seriously obese".

Cllr Anna Semlyen called Lord Mayor Ian Gillies and Conservative Leader Chris Steward "seriously obese" on Twitter whilst congratulating Labour colleagues on their weight loss. She has apologised to the councillors she insulted.

York City Labour lose two more councillors

Two more Labour councillors on York City Council have resigned from the party on Thursday, making Labour's grip on the city even more tenuous.

In September, Cllr Helen Douglas defected from Labour to the Conservatives and lost the Labour group their majority. Cllrs Ken King and David Scott have now both resigned over the local Labour leadership and attempts to punish them for voting to cut councillors' expenses. There are now 21 Labour councillors on York City Council out of a total of 47.

Labour have lost their majority on City of York Council after one of their councillors defected to the Tories.

Cllr Helen Douglas criticised Labour for having "no vision" nationally and a "misguided" vision locally. She said that the Labour administration has taken on too much debt and told backbench councillors "only what they want them to know".
