EU rules that uninsured drivers must be compensated if they have accidents

A ruling by the EU means that uninsured motorists will have to be paid compensation if they are involved in a car accident.

The ruling is likely to push up insurance premiums for law abiding drivers who will now be paying to insure the vehicles of those who don't bother.

UKIP Transport spokesman, Jill Seymour MEP, said:

This scheme is using the money of honest premium-paying motorists to compensate those who are blatantly breaking the law – everything about it is totally wrong.

West Midlands MEP Jill Seymour has launched a ‘Christmas for Cumbria’ campaign, collecting festive gifts to deliver to flood-hit families in the north of England.

She has set up a drop-off centre at her constituency headquarters in Bridge Road, Wellington, and will be delivering all of Shropshire’s donations to the region early next week.

“We’ve all been touched by the terrible scenes over the past few days, where families watched helplessly as their homes, possessions, and all their Christmas preparations, were destroyed,” said Mrs Seymour.

“And when the flood water finally disappears, the hard work really starts. That’s when these families have to return to their severely-damaged homes trying to salvage their possessions.

“This appeal isn’t about providing furniture, bedding or blankets – it’s about the people of Shropshire giving the flood-hit families of Cumbria a special little treat for Christmas.”

Mrs Seymour is urging people to wrap up a gift and deliver it to her office, Independence House, 27 Bridge Road, Wellington, TF1 1ED, any time between 9.30am and 4pm from Monday to Thursday this week.

“It would be a big help if they could be marked up so that we know if the gifts are for males or females, adults or children.

“I plan to drive up to Cumbria on Tuesday next week with Shropshire’s donations, and hopefully put a smile on some people’s faces at such a difficult time in their lives.

“I want the people of Cumbria who have been affected by these devastating floods to know that they are in thoughts of families here in Shropshire.”

Don't make our heroes beg for more

I spent most of today following Jill Seymour and Nigel Farage around the West Midlands to campaign against HS2, support UKIP in Cannock and then watch the unveiling of UKIP's defence policy at Himley Hall near Dudley.

We started the day in Marston in Staffordshire, a village that will literally be ripped apart by HS2. I saw first hand the impact that HS2 is going to have on our green and pleasant land. The farm that we met at is going to be cut in half by the railway line. The farm buildings are going to be knocked down and the farm house will be no more than 100 yards from the track. The lovely big house over the road is going to be demolished.

I can't remember which candidate this car belongs to but it's certainly a statement!

The turnout in Cannock was fantastic. Loads of encouragement from local residents and when Nigel Farage arrived he was mobbed by supporters. He made a sharp exit when a couple of known Hate not Hope agitators were spotted and who can blame him after the physical attacks he's received at the hands of HnH thugs?

After Cannock it was on to Himley Hall for UKIP's defence policy announcement with Paul Nuttall, Bill Etheridge, Nigel Farage and Mike Hookem. Most of the guests were former armed services personnel and Mike Hookem received a standing ovation.
