Opinium have UKIP on 18%, YouGov on 16% and Mark Reckless is bookies favourite for Rochester

An opinion poll conducted by Opinium for the Observer newspaper puts Labour and the Conservatives level pegging on 33% each with UKIP on 18%.

The poll also found that 31% of people would consider voting UKIP in their constituency if they thought UKIP could win.

Opinium didn't get the ComRes memo and put UKIP in the "other" section again which, as ComRes showed a week ago, results in an artificially low projected vote share for UKIP.

Conservative33%
Labour33%

A YouGov poll for the Sunday Times also finds the Conservatives and Labour level pegging on 33% with UKIP at 16%.

UKIP are currently favourites to win the Rochester & Strood by-election with bookies offering odds of 1/5 for Mark Reckless against 11/2 for the second favourite Conservative and the waste of space Lib Dems 1/10 to lose their deposit.

Opinium currently polling on leaving the EU

Polling company Opinium are currently conducting a survey on leaving the EU and how you would vote in a referendum.

Bizarrely, despite being all about the EU they have decided not to prompt for UKIP, forcing people to choose "other" to find UKIP when answering questions about who you intend to vote for at the next election and which party you trust most on the EU.

When the results come out they should make very interesting reading, especially if UKIP comes out ahead of all the other parties on the EU despite hiding the party away in the "other" section.

UKIP on 21% in Opinium poll

An Opinium poll for the Observer has UKIP on a new high (for Opinium) of 21% with the Lib Dems on their lowest ever rating of 6%.

David Cameron's rating is down again to 28% while Ed Miliband's rating is just 22% and Nick Clegg's a lowly 12%.

We incorrectly attributed this poll to Survation last night. Let that be a lesson to you all on the dangers of late night blogging!

UKIP third in Opinium/Guardian poll

UKIP is polling third ahead of the Lib Dems in yet another poll, no doubt to the disappointment of the Guardian who commissioned it.

Opinium have Labour in the lead on 41%, the Tories second on 30%, UKIP on 10% and the Lib Dems on 9%.  The Greens are languishing in fifth of the UK-wide parties on just 3% and the BNP are sixth on 1%.  The SNP are on 4% which would translate to 48% if they were a UK-wide party.  Plaid Cymru have all but disappeared into obscurity with less than 1%.

Opinium don't offer UKIP as a choice alongside the LibLabCon when asking for voting intention and when it produces graphics UKIP is lumped in with "Other" even though UKIP is out-polling the Lib Dems in every poll and accounts for half of the "Other" group.  We have criticised this behaviour by some of the polling companies and Survation Chief Executive, Damian Lyons Lowe, did the same last month.  It's utter nonsense to list the Lib Dems but not UKIP.

UKIP 3rd and 4th in Opinium and YouGov polls

Polling company, Opinium, had UKIP on 11% last night against 9% for the Lib Dems.  Labour lead the Tories 41% to 30%.

Meanwhile, YouGov has UKIP on 8% and the Lib Dems on 10% with Labour leading the Tories 43% to 32%.

The big difference in their methodology is that Opinium offer UKIP as an option in its own right along with the LibLabCon parties whereas YouGov still include UKIP in the "Other" category, even when they are beating the Lib Dems.  When it comes to polling results, the likes of Opinium, Survation and Angus Reid who all list UKIP alongside the LibLabCon give us an insight into what UKIP's performance would be if the party was given media coverage appropriate to its election and polling performance whereas YouGov's results show us what UKIP's performance is likely to be if the party is still treated as an "Other".

Opinium puts UKIP ahead of Lib Dems again

Polling company Opinium has UKIP ahead of the Lib Dems once again  has UKIP ahead of the Lib Dems once again, not that you'd know from their headline voting intentions which list Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems and Other Parties.

Labour are out front with 40%, the Tories are second with 30%, UKIP are third with 9.49% and the Lib Dems in fourth on 8.85%.

David Cameron is the only LibLabCon party leader that commands the support of the majority of his party with 72% of Tories approving of his record so far against just 42% for Ed Miliband and a rather pathetic 24% for Nick Clegg.
